Olympic head shaking

I don't want to be grumpy about the olympics, but how many stories like this have there been?
Knitters haven't been allowed to sell knitted olympic rings, bakers haven't been allowed to hang five ring bagels in their windows, councils have been told to only hang "official" bunting on the torch route (I've seen it - it's ugly), no one but macdonalds is allowed to sell a portion of chips in the olympic park, only visa cards could be used to buy tickets, only visa cards will work in the olympic park cash machines, and so on and so on.
It's a just a sporting competition. How come it costs nearly £10 billion? If about 10,000 athletes will take part, that's a million pounds per competitor, or about £600m for a day's sport, or about £166 for each person in the country. But that's just the publicly funded infrastructure projects. There's another £2bn to run the games, being paid for by the sponsors demanding stupid restrictions.
OK, perhaps I am grumpy about the olympics. Can I have a medal?
Disclaimer: I'm not a Telegraph reader, honest
