I first used Linux servers in 1999. It took me a little while to get round to trying it on a desktop (yesterday). Ubuntu has a Windows installer (Wubi) that Just Works.
Everything seems to be fine (after a bit of googling) but...
...on a new Windows install, you (should) spend ages waiting for Windows Update to fetch you hundreds of security updates. Turns out it's the same with Ubuntu. So much so that I have spare time for making blog posts about it.
