Site of the day
Nov. 24th, 2010 02:56 pmWhat is the generic term for a carbonated beverage?
I would say "fizzy drink", and my experience is that people of my grandparents' generation said "pop". I've never heard anyone English say "soda". I've heard of people in the US southern states saying "coke" without meaning the brand (so if they ask for a coke, the reply could be "Pepsi or Fanta?").
Anyway, here's a site with a map of the word that Americans use: http://www.popvssoda.com/
